Hello!
I wrote a book called 'The Uncertainty' which features Randolph Carter as one of the main characters. It follows up on 'Through the Gates of the Silver Key'. Situated in the year 2000, Randolph Carter remembers piece by piece how and why he came back:
"Randolph shuddered at the thought, releasing his mind from its defences and letting it rise above memory again. He heaved the glass to his lips and sighed. Slowly he drank. As he swallowed, he saw more glimpses from the fading memory, strong and not willing to go away. The horrid appearance of Umr at-Tawil in the Machine room. There was a role to play for Randolph Carter again in this world. Randolph had heard himself say yes with alien lips and there he was. In the here and now.
To wait and prepare for a being whose presence defies the universe. And what he done with this second chance? What could he have done?"
