Sorry to go back to the Racism thing.
Yes Lovecraft was a racist, but I think it was due to his pychology as much as the times he lived in. Lets not forget he had a breakdown before he left High School due to his inability to get the grades he needed in math. This must have been to him an embarrassing failure, which is often known to manifest it's self as a violent hatred to another ethnic groups that had very little to do with the original source of stress and humiliation (Think Hitler and the Jews).We should also take into account that Lovecraft was reportedly sickened by the way the Nazi party and Germany in the 1930s was treating the Jews.
I don't think Lovecraft was a true 'Rasict' he was just pushing the blame of him not being so good at math on to other people. However, others might disagree.
