just noticed this thread here and felt like chiming in. the first time i read the ghooric zone story, i had just finished several of the other stories in the book and definitely noticed the divergence in style. having read it a couple more times since then, i appreciate it as a sci-fi story more than a mythos story.
i guess the point was that howard lovecraft the earthling was somehow known and revered by interplanetary and/or interdimensional entities. kind of a corny homage to hpl, if that's what it was meant to be.
for my money, the writer could have cut out all the hpl stuff and just left it as a futuristic 'world history'

Hmm. A lot of sci fi stuff these days bores me. Bring back Metropolis!
