R'lyeh, real?

I came across in interesting website today. One that listens to the oceans for various scientific reasons using microphone arrays. A section of their page is set up for "unidentified sounds" and what caught my attention was that two of the listed sounds are located rather close to Lovecraft's location of R'lyeh. Both were loud enough to carry throughout the Pacific!

If anyone's interested, the URL for this page is here and the 2 I mentioned are called "Bloop" and "Upsweep". They're pretty cool to listen to.

P.S. More info on the "Bloop" sound can also be found here at Wikipedia.

Cthulhu snores? Eep. Not long until the stars will be right, now. And he's gonna be cranky when he finds out we've been listening to him sleep.

After reading Call of Cthulhu for the first time just the other day, I have to say, I can't believe he was defeated by a boat ramming him. Sure, he started reforming, but still, I expected the almighty Cthulhu to be a bit more sturdy than that.

put yourself in cthulhu's shoes. he just woke up after quintillions of years and found a bunch of shrimpy primates loitering in front of his severely flooded house... maybe a steamboat to the face made him stop and wonder what the hell was going on anyway, and maybe he should just go take a wizz and grab a coffee and cigarette and try to get somebody on the phone. nyarlathotep, maybe. but that guy is always changing his number.

Hell, if I got boated in the face first thing in the morning, I'd go back to bed.

I'm proud of using 'boat' as a verb. Is it a verb? It is now. By Imperial decree.
Oh, yeah, I'm Emperor now too.

Of what? You have two sycophants and you're stuck on an island.

By my calculations, their ears will have grown large enough to snap their necks two or three generations from now.
