Hello all,

The only lovecraftian movie I've ever seen was the Dunwich Horror. It starred that dude from quantum leap and was a very odd movie. I guess the special effects weren't there to make it somewhat palatable.

Anyway,

Can you guys suggest some lovecraftian movies that are good and stay faithful to the original stories? I don't really care for the movies that re-write literature or history so if you can do this it would be much appreciated.

Just watched In the Mouth of Madness last night and it was a GREAT Lovecraftian movie.

Very creepy, very unnerving. Great, great movie.

Good luck finding a Lovercraft-inspired film which is not grotesquely distorted from the author's original vision.

The short story "From Beyond" has been turned into a horror-show bearing little resemblance to the original. "Reanimator" is based on the Herbert West story and was so gory I couldn't watch it. If you're into the current trend for "torture porn" you may enjoy these films.

There is a fan film of Call of Cthulhu which is done in 1920s style. While Call has never been my favourite Mythos story, I've got to say that this film is really good. There are no variations from the story though, so if like me you're sick of reading the story, the film may not appeal.

The only Mythos-related entertainment that lives up to Lovercraft's name is the XBox game Dark Corners of the Earth. You don't even get a gun for the first half of the game and the gameplay is biased towards fear and tension; you basically get to play part of the Shadow over Innsmouth and Shadow out of Time stories with some extra stuff thrown in.
