Stuart Gordon's The Thing on the Doorstep

I just read about Mr. Gordon's plans to film The Thing on the Doorstep, and i'm not pleased with what I read. Although past efforts of his have been decent (Reanimator, Dagon, etc.) I think Stuart is going about this one all wrong.
As usual he is deleting any elements of Cthulhu mythology from the storyline and relying on sex and violence to tell the tale. Now, it's been a while since i've read this parficular yarn but I do remember that it is one of just a couple Lovecraft tales that features a female character. It definitely was no sexfest , but that's pretty much how Gordon describes his idea for it.
Even Gordon regular Jeffrey Combs has passed on it, saying it's too filthy for him.
I like cinema sex and violence as much as the next guy, but they have their place, and that place is not in a Lovecraft film. Am I wrong?

too often lovecraft's name is attached to lousy c-movies like those constantly stinking up the sci-fi channel.. they latch on to his name like lampreys, slap together a halfass script and stir up a bunch of cardboard actors and special effects artists who try real hard, god bless em.

i was excited to hear the del toro mountains of madness gossip but i'm not holding my breath for that or anything else to do justice to the original writing.

I'm not a big del Toro fan. I think he would ruin Madness. I did hear about that but i guess he set it aside because now i hear he's connected to The Hobbit.

The first Hellboy started off well- for about the first 20 seconds with the quote from Von Junzt- but it quickly fell apart after that.

i'll agree that del toro doesn't slam-dunk everything, but his productions at least begin to approach the sort of spectacles that would be required for a decent lovecraft adaptation.

Say what!!! That man single handedly made puppets badass again! ATMOM is going to be sweet, and a more darker hobbit sounds pretty cool.

I dont have too much faith in Lovecraft-like movies because of their track record. I will watch it if I can find it though. The video games have been much better throughout the years which makes me believe that instead of live action they should switch to animation for lovecrafts stories.
