Comments on stories

Post by nortonew »

One problem I've noticed is that there is no good way to know if someone has posted a comment on one of your stories, aside from clicking on each story you have posted and scrolling down to the bottom.

This isn't so bad if you only have one or two posted. However, if you have 20 posted, this can be a bit of a pain.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to send an email to the writers when someone bothers to post a comment. However, this could be handy for some of us in keeping abreast of anyone who has something to say about our writing.

Obviously, this isn't a majorly important issue. But if your bored sometime, it might be something you could implement to alleviate your ennui.

i have been reluctant to post comments on several stories i liked, for this same reason.. it helps when the author posts a link to the story here in the forum, then we can read it and comment that way

Well, if you like a story, maybe you could start a thread on it, and the author could give you their spin on it, and others could discuss it too. It'd be a bit of a bother if all of us authors started threads ofr all our pieces.

Hell I had a lot of assholes flooding my comment area on here before the new format. I get a lot of cool comments as well but they are directed to my guestbook or AuthorsDen most of the time. I will comment from time to time on here but lately I just been really busy with the new apartment and my own magazine. I am working on new material right now for both print magazines and due for a new one exclusively on here soon.

The old site just used some comment scripts scattered around. Now the whole site is powered by WordPress and there are all sorts of plugins around for it.

I may be able to write a plugin to do this (if one does not already exist).

I do have one plugin I use on another site ( dagondesign.com ) which allows email notification of comments on a post. It would work, but it would not be ideal. To receive email notifications on your stories you would have to post a comment on each one with the subscribe option checked.

I will see what options there are :)

Do you need help with the actual code, or the algorithms?

What language is it in?

Al, while you're fiddling about with code and the like, can you make a robot for me?
